Airwallex, a Hong Kong-based fintech platform, has launched its cross-border payment services in Malaysia, after scoring a money services license from Bank Negara Malaysia in August last year.
With the launch, the company said that “qualified businesses” will be given access to its foreign exchange conversions and payouts services in more than 130 countries. In the next few months, these services will be available to more businesses across Malaysia.
Airwallex was founded in 2015 by Jack Zhang and Max Li. Launched in Melbourne, the firm has raised more than US$800 million and is currently valued at around US$5.5 billion. The company has onboarded more than 1,000 employees and tens of thousands of customers to date.
Earlier this year, the unicorn startup expanded to Singapore after acquiring a Major Payment Institution License from the Monetary Authority of Singapore.
