Aggressive hiring continues for banking and payments provider
Airwallex, which today announced a new general manager for the EMEA region.
Pranav Sood joins the Australian fintech from
GoCardless, where he previously served as VP of small business, and will now oversee “aggressive growth” as
Airwallex looks to expand across EMEA.
The appointment comes just months after the fintech already snagged
two senior Revolut and Deliveroo execs as EMEA director of compliance and head of SME for the UK.
Airwallex last year raised $300m across
its Series E funding round, with plans to grow its European headcount from 100 to over 150 by the end of 2022.
As well as being GM across the region, Sood will also be a director of both
Airwallex’s UK and Netherlands entities.
Jack Zhang, co-founder and CEO of
Airwallex said the hire was part of the company’s move to “strengthen our foothold in EMEA”.
“His fintech expertise alongside his strong track record and ability to scale businesses will be invaluable as we continue to grow our presence in the region, providing a full suite of payment solutions through our diversified product stack.”
While at
GoCardless Sood oversaw a doubling of the business’s SME revenue and grew its customer base to around 75,000 SMEs, while also working on the fintech’s international expansion into North America, Australia and across Europe.
“Over the past couple of years, I’ve witnessed the business’ rapid growth across EMEA and I couldn’t be more excited to be joining a stellar EMEA team at such a critical juncture,” said Sood on his appointment.
